Practical Skills for Building a Business that WORKS

The Reality for New Founders

Many founders spend their first year or two
building something they think should work. They
stay busy and invest time and money before
they have real evidence they are on the right
track.

This series helps participants learn core skills to
replace guesswork with evidence and focus their
effort early, before busy turns into burnout.

What To Expect

Participants learn and practice essential business
building skills, including:

  • Market research

  • Customer discovery

  • Business development

  • Positioning and differentiation

  • Making informed business setup decisions like
when to build a website, register a business,
invest in tools, or buy business insurance

These skills help founders focus on the right things
at the right time so they can build a business that
works for them and their customers. Participants
leave with tools they can continue using as their
business grows and evolves.

Who Is This For?

This is designed for emerging entrepreneurs who have thought about starting a business, but find themselves not knowing what to build, how to build it, or need more rigor and accountability to build a business that that they love.

This series is especially impactful for those exiting corporate jobs who want to explore how their skills could become a business and want structured support to try on different business models and niches.

Our work will uncover what's behind your desire to be a founder, what is the business you are uniquely positioned to build (not the one you "should" build), and who are you best positioned to sell to. From there, we will do market research, test business models to find the one best suited to you and your customers, and define a go-to-market strategy that matches where you are today and positions you for where you want to be down the road.

Recently Laid Off?

This series can be funded by Self-Employment Assistance Programs (SEAP). These programs allow you to collect unemployment while receiving additional funds to get the training you need to build a business. Here are the programs we know about.
